DAY ONE OF CHAPTER – ARRIVAL AND RETREAT

The Province of West Africa is abuzz with excitement as we gather for our Inaugural Provincial Chapter – a momentous milestone in our congregation’s history. The chapter, which runs until July 13th, has brought together Brothers from across the region and oversees, including the esteemed Superior General Bro. Paul Bednarczyk, CSC, Fr. Andrew Gawrych, CSC (third assistant), Fr. Peter Mayanja, CSC (Provincial of East Africa), Bro. John Bailanda, CSC (PEA), and Fr. Peter Qorro, CSC (PEA). At the heart of this gathering is a transformative retreat, centred around the theme: “Holy Cross in West Africa: Discerning Together for Mission; Ave Crux, Spes Unica.” This theme resonates deeply, reflecting our congregation’s unwavering commitment to its cherished charism and spirituality, as embodied in the inspiring motto “Ave Crux Spes Unica” (Hail the Cross, Our Only Hope). Guiding us through this profound journey is Very Rev Fr. Timothy Baghrmwin, SJ, whose expertise and wisdom will be invaluable as we embark on this new chapter. As we come together, a palpable sense of anticipation and purpose fills the air. This chapter presents a unique opportunity to reflect on our past, assess our present, and chart an ambitious course for the future. Driven by our dedication to education, faith formation, and service to the poor and marginalised, we are poised to deepen our commitment to the Congregation of Holy Cross’s transformative mission in West Africa. The road ahead may be challenging, but our unwavering faith and collective spirit will propel us forward, inspiring all who witness our journey. The Cross indeed is our only hope!!!
